JENNY

JENNY

Team Lead for Client Experience and Clinic Operations

the heart of zen cat

Hi! It’s safe to say I have been in the veterinary industry for much longer than I ever imagined and I absolutely love it! It all started at Green Acres Animal Hospital back in the days of Dr. Finell and Dr. Spitzke…I am dating myself at this point so let’s round it to an even 20 years. For the past three years I helped a large animal practice, don’t judge me haha, build up their cliental and develop a new level of care for the industry. Like Dr. Kate and our phenomenal team, my dedication to providing a platinum standard of care and attention is where I excel. I have three kitties and a potentially unhealthy attachment to my Momma Kitty, so if any of you have something similar you are at the right clinic! My husband and I have an incredible little girl and her hamster, currently called Mistie Hamstie Raindow Heart Star but that will change weekly. I feel the last 20 years has given me a decent image of what the perfect practice looks like and Zen Cat will make that image a reality. I am thrilled to be part of this team and I am so excited to get to know each one of you and your precious felines! Always remember, if you think a request is going too far, I have most likely already had a clinic do it for my Momma Kitty so ask away.

Dr Kate says: “Jenny is SUCH a tremendous asset to Zen Cat - having her on our team makes me feel like nothing is impossible for Zen Cat. I truly couldn’t have found someone more excited about and dedicated to the client experience. She is going to be a new face to most of my clients but I cannot wait for everyone to meet her. I am positive you will love her just as much as I do. Jenny also requested that I put a heart next to Momma Kitty’s name above so that just tells you something right there.”

MELISSA

MELISSA

Registered Veterinary Technician

Dr. Kate says: “While I have worked many years in the same building as Melissa, I have not had the pleasure of having her as my technician very often. I am so excited to have the opportunity to do so now. Not much frazzles her - she is always laughter and calm light. She is a naturally talented vet tech with a kind and sparkly soul. And she may have dogs at home but I have seen first hand how relaxed cats are with her - this makes her a perfect addition to Zen Cat Clinic. Some of my clients may have glimpsed her in the past but I am so excited them them to really get to know her now.”

Melissa was born and raised in Lethbridge, growing up around a variety of pets. She always had a passion for animals, striving to be a voice for the voiceless. Graduating from Olds College in 2020, Melissa started her career in emergency medicine. Her skill set and knowledge quickly expanded after her COVID schooling, serving as the primary technician for rescue pet surgeries for multiple years.

Melissa has three rescue dogs at home to keep her busy, especially her special boy Timmy who was rescued due to being at risk for euthanasia for his neurological and behavioral concerns. After lots of training and love, Timmy turned into a very special sweet boy. Melissa’s first pup, Zaida, is a young lab mix who you can’t keep out of the water! Zaida is a very quirky girl who is an idol in her little sister Winni’s eyes. Winni is a young chihuahua cross who is small but mighty and won’t let her size get in the way of anything. The house may be energetic but it can never be too full; Melissa and her partner Tate hope to add a little furry feline friend soon!!

In Melissa’s spare time, you can find her typically with her partner Tate, out with their dogs or enjoying quality time with friends or family. They like to spend as much time outdoors doing various activities: camping, boating, driving side by sides, hiking, and more, bringing the fur children along for the adventures.

At Zen Cat, Melissa looks forward to providing the best possible care for every pet and is integral to providing a fear-free vet experience for our feline patients. She hopes to make a difference by advocating for our furry feline friends, providing exceptional gold-standard care alongside a like-minded team. Melissa brings a kind, calm and welcoming demeanor and looks forward to getting to know the clients and pets of Zen Cat. She especially appreciates formulating a long-term treatment plan for patients and clients and will be a familiar face throughout your journey, cheering our Zen Cat families on through follow up appointments and long-term care.

Originally from Saskatoon, Kaelee has had the privilege of living all over Western Canada. She was lucky enough to fall into the vet industry after graduating with honors from Vancouver Film School. She worked as an vet assistant for 3 years before starting the exciting journey to become a vet tech. Currently she is completing her veterinary technician program online with Penn Foster. She is incredibly grateful to be able to pursue her education with the privilege of learning on the job, under the supervision of some of the most incredible veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians in the field. She is passionate about providing gold-standard care and treats every kitty as if they were her own.

Kaelee’s life revolves around 3 perfect felines. Charlie and Fido were both rescued from hoarding situations and have traveled across the country with her. Hobbs joined her family more recently. He was brought in for euthanasia by his previous owners due to ‘aggression’ but they were convinced to surrender him instead. In addition to caring for her own fur-family, she often fosters pets from various local rescues, especially those that require complicated medical care.

Kaelee has a heart of gold, and loves doing whatever she can to make the world a better place. In her free time, you’ll often find her volunteering and getting involved in the community. She has been organizing events/fundraisers to give back around Lethbridge for years now, and she is excited to continue this at Zen Cat Clinic.

Dr Kate says: “Kaelee is a completely new team member to me as I have not had the privilege of working with her in the past, but it has not taken long to understand why my team was so excited to have her on board. Kaelee has already bettered Zen Cat in multiple ways - heading up our blood donor program, making some fantastic suggestions on some new equipment, being a source of trusted and skilled pet sitting for our kitty caregivers, bringing forth some fun bonding activities, and being willing to help in all areas Zen Cat - truly embracing our non-hierarchical organization model. I am so excited to see what Kaelee’s future at Zen Cat holds as she grows into becoming a fabulous veterinary technician.”

“Born in Newfoundland but raised in Cold Lake Alberta along side a constant clowder of cats - my soft spot for cats was ingrained from birth. My childhood dream was to be a zookeeper specializing in big cats or a veterinarian. After graduating from Grande Prairie Regional College in 2019 with my veterinary technician diploma , I set my sights on a career dedicated to our purring pals. I seized the chance to team up with Dr. Kate and moved to Lethbridge in 2020, diving headfirst into my RVT role. Every meow matters to me - ensuring every kitty is comfortable, loved, respected and healthy is my top priority at Zen Cat Clinic. I am especially drawn towards feline dental health/procedures and I can’t help but be captivated by the soulful senior kitties. I can't wait to meet all the cool cats and their humans walking through our door! When I'm not cat whispering, I'm relaxing at home with my son, husband, and my fur family of two cats and a dog.

Dr Kate says: “Madison and I fit together like 2 peas in a pod. I still remember how privileged I felt to have a technician who specifically wanted to work with me! When she moved home to Cold Lake, I just knew our paths would somehow cross again. Only a few days after I made the decision to open Zen Cat Clinic, I got a message from her saying her husband had a job in Lethbridge and she was moving back! I could hardly believe how generous the Universe could be. Many of you already know and love Madison - she brings with her not only superior technician skills but also a lot of personal experience with feline illness and this has always gone such a long way in helping her connect and support clients. I couldn’t imagine opening a clinic without her by my side.

Ramona

Ramona

Dr. Kate holds a special affection for tricolor felines. This enchanting little blend of Devon Rex and Sphynx captured her heart and became part of the family through the Alberta Sphynx Rescue. Ramona is a rambunctious, clumsy, VERY food motivated, heat seeking little turkey with the softest crimped fur and an exceptional purr. No matter how wild she is, she always welcomes a snuggle and belly rub.

You may have noticed that Ramona has not been at Zen Cat much - she is going through a rather troublesome teenage phase. Her sass has been a bit much for patients and she has given the “Ramona discount” on numerous bags of cat food that she felt the need to tear into. We are hoping this phase is going to pass and she can once again greet you at Zen Cat!
